Evidence on drug trials
One of the primary reasons that people start exploring alternative medicine is because they weren't finding health in Western medicine. Nowadays there is a prescription for every ailment, but there is growing evidence that many drugs do not deliver what they promise. In the latest, here is an article by Ben Goldacre describing a well-meaning physician and his experiences with a drug that was not what it appeared to be. "Drugs are tested by their manufacturers, in poorly designed trials, on hopelessly small numbers of weird, unrepresentative patients, and analysed using techniques that exaggerate the benefits."
